Mark found as described. There is paint on the street sign reading "MON" with an arrow pointing downward. I missed it the first time.

Found it with my dad.

Found in good condition at N38 50.130 W077 13.434 with 8' accuracy.

photoBenchmark with stake

No witness post or stake, as previously noted, but mark was oh-so-easy to find surrounded by three panels of aerial target material. Could this be the same material still in place from 2003? It didn't look very new, but I would be surprised that it would need to remain in place for two years or longer, or that it would still be in reasonably good condition after that much exposure to the elements (and passersby).

Station is approximately 1.4 feet northwest of a metal pole with the Little River Tpke/Lake Blvd street sign and about 25 feet west-southwest of power pole CO616 OB58.

Found as described. One foot west of a recently-installed witness post. Revisited on 12/01/05. Witness post and plastic X are gone. Utility pole is C0616-OB58. Station is 1.5 feet northwest of the pole that supports the street sign for Lake Blvd and Little River Turnpike. New photos.

NOTE: There is an excellent USGS Benchmark - 15 DRD - about 3/10ths of a mile EAST of HV8566 (not in the Geocaching/NGS database - no PID). To reach 15 DRD, cross to the south side of Little River Turnpike (Rte 236) and head EAST to the Rte 236 bridge over I-495. The benchmark is mounted in the top of the SOUTHWEST wingwall of the bridge. Dangerous approach across I-495 on- and off-ramps to get to the mark. The attached images are of this USGS mark. Handheld coordinates are N38-50.068 W077-13.145.

The benchmark is seen with some heavy plastic pegged down with spikes. Apparently this benchmark's position was supposed to be seen from the air. The view is looking East along Little River Turnpike towards its intersection with the DC beltway.
