Did not find the benchmark but I did find the witness post, so I photographed that. Should make it easier to locate after the swamp drains. It was just wayyyy too wet to find the station today. My GPS coordinates of the witness post are:
N38 44.534 W077 30.770.

This station was found. It is about 3 inches below the general surface, but was found exposed in a small water channel. The 14-inch ash tree is gone and the 8-inch stump is gone. The station is 48 feet South of a 14-inch ash tree that is covered by poison ivy.

The disk is in the lower center of the picture between the stake and the yellow compass. The ash tree is in the background. A surveyor marked the station sometime after Artman searched the area.

If I understood the description - and it conforms to the readings from my GPS receiver - this station is some 20 yards outside the cemetery grounds in a marshy, overgrown, bramble-filled area. The last recovery, in January 1987, was in winter, and maybe that's the time to go, because it was pretty impenetrable in summer.
