Former railroad station, now the town museum, is located along East King Street (state route 55), about two blocks east of the intersection with U.S. 11 at the center of town.

Station disk is located near the main track, very roughly halfway between King Street and the point where a spur track branches off.

It is about 4 feet south of pole 611, which stands adjacent to an unused pole. It is about 16 feet south of the south corner of a metal utility building.

The concrete post appears to be leaning, and the station may be unsuitable for critical work.

Sorry for fuzzy photo; forgot to take camera out of macro mode after closeup shot. View to the north toward King Street. Station disk in foreground, highlighted in yellow box. Metal utility building in middle distance. Overhang of former train station visible in distance by cars.
N 38° 59.252 W 078° 21.323

This benchmark was found as described. The concrete post projects 4 inches.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
