Found while doing the virtual cache up here on Mary's rock summit. A bit precarious!

Found while doing the virtual. It was a very wet day, but I was able to spot three markers up here. I climbed to all three to make sure I had the necessary info for the virtual. Cool to check them out, although it was definitely dangerous.

Found while visiting the nearby virtual.

Found R17, but only the post for MARY. MARY Reference marks remain in good condition.

Mary / HW3268 is no longer at the summit. Someone has pried it off the rock and only the drill hole and the stem remains.

The second benchmark a foot or so away (HW3269 / R17 3514 1928) is still there in fairly good condition. It's getting hard to read the stamping however.

I could see reference marks Mary RM1 and Mary RM2 on separate boulders off in the distance, but I did not scramble up those boulders to get a close look. You can see them from R17 at the summit.

Beautiful view from "At the Rock"

Great view from this area.

Found while doing a Virtual in the area.

We found this and other markers nearby while doing a little hike.

I found the benchmark and two reference disks, each placed on top of a separate outcrop. I made three separate scrambles to see each disk up close. Good view from Mary's Rock.

Rock hop to the top!

Kinda tough to spot... TGFF (thank goodness for flaffle).

Found it while here for a cache. Thanks!

Found this along with a geocache close by. Had hoped to see some fall colors this weekend, but it turned to winter over night!

Found during a virtual cache run through the park.

Hard not to log this when doing the nearby cache.

Found this benchmark while doing a nearby virtual geocache. This place was awesome!

photoBenchmark on Marys Rock

Several years behind my caching friend flyingmoose, I too discovered four benchmarks while seeking the co-located Virtual cache. BMs found were MARY, MARY 01, MARY 02, AND R-17. All markers were difficult to read after numerous scratches and dents.

Found this one while doing the Geocache at the same location.

We cerainly found this one by hunting the virtual cache GC1A6C At the Rock! Only now I realized that US benchmarks can be logged on geocaching.com.

Found this along with 3 other benchmarks while at Marys Rock. I loved the view. Will visit again.

Found a total of 4 benchmarks at Mary's Rocks while locating GC1A6C. This one in addition to bench mark disk R 17 (HW3269). I was unable to find entries for the two others, both appearing to be azimuth mark disks to the north and the south of MARY stamped MARY No. 1 and MARY No. 2 respectively. I've attached photos but neglected to get coords on either. Cooke17513 appears to have likewise noted.

A small surprise to find this triangulation station mark up on top of Mary Rock while getting the virtual cache "At the Rock" [GC1A6C] up here.

At Mary Rock in Virginia - found triangulation station mark benchmark by surprise.

I found the bench while hiking the in Shenandoah National Park It was one of 3 I found at Mary's Rock.

3:00p - Aloha! Quite the scramble with little room for manuevering. Still, marker is there for all to find.

Found this one today at the top of the rock. Great view.

The description on the NGS Data Sheet is clear, but the scramble to the actual location is a bit tricky. And there is not much room to maneuver for taking the best pictures. The station mark has been pried up a little. The two nearby reference marks can be seen approximately north and south on adjacent boulders, slightly downhill.

Found this while geocaching. Marker is not in good condition, some hit it. will upload picture after erasing information needed for virtual geocache

Found this one by accident, hiked to the top of Mary's rock and there it was! Gread day for hiking, view was spectacular! could see for miles in all directions.
will post a pic if the digital camera co-operates.
Team Fuji.

Climbed to the top of a narrow boulder and found one of the benchmarks in the area.

Looks like someone has been trying to pry this marker out of the rock. Maintenance needed.

Great Views from the Rock! Great hike as well! Found Mary and all three REF markers!

I've visited this spot at the high point of Mary's rock for year's and year's. It's one of my favorite places in SNP.

Found this one while doing the virtual cache. Great day, treacherous trail due to the snow and ice.

Found this as a virtual cache.

I found this one while doing the virtual cache. My girlfriend made it up here as well.

Coords were right on. It was a snowy and windy day for this hike. The trail was solid snow. I could barely keep my balance on the survey boulder due to the wind. Anyone who's been here will know how scary that could be. It's a long way down. I took some great pictures though.

I found this one quite by accident. I had the day off, so a couple of friends recommended hiking Mary's rock. At the peak were 2 benchmarks, one badly mangled. There's also a virtual cache located here.

Duh, it just occured to me that finding the virtual cache guaranteed finding the benchmark too!

I didn't know about Geocaching when I found this disk, but I definitely found it by accident! January 22, 2002 was a beautiful 55-65 degree day. Hiked in shorts and a long sleeve shirt (was a little windy). Had a cigar, some jambalaya and wine from a flask (though not in that order) at the top of Mary's Rock. Found the benchmarks while I was scampering over the giant rock outcrops. Very cool place to hike to, especially when you are unemployed and it's 60 degrees out in January!
