Finally I think I found my first Benchmark. Although I'm still a bit confused about the RM 1, 2 and 3 but quite exactly at the coordinates on top of the highest elevation on the rock I found the disk (see attached photos). Previously I visited the close by Virtual Cache.

Found while doing Summits on the Air (SOTA) amateur radio activation.

First we made the nearby Earthcache "GC1EGJP Little Stony Man". Afterwards we visited the Virtual "GC7270 Stony Man Cliff" and on the hike, we found the disc.

Great views around!

All is well on Stony Mountain. Located the station on my second attempt. My first attempt about a week earlier was in extreme fog and mist and the rocks were too slippery for my tastes. Today though it was a dry, clear day. Current descriptions and photos are adequate so I didn't bother posting the pics I took. Someone has scratched the elevation into the mark - thats pretty tacky. Also I noticed the mark is stamped 1923, not the 1933 you see in the description.

Took some searching but the Richmond Mountain Men found it. (Actually, I was standing on it and couldn't find it!) It's on the top of the outcropping. Rattlesnake heaven!

From SKYLAND B [AI5757] follow the blue-blazed Stony Man Trail past where the AT turns right. Continue right where the loop trail forks, and turn left into the woods at about trail marker #15 (as suggested by Zinnware).
Someone has recently scratched the exact elevation on the station mark. I found STONY MAN RM 2 [DC4386] without difficulty, but I missed the other nearby reference mark.

Searched again on 12-06-2006. Found STONY MAN RM 1 AZIMUTH [DC4385] at Drive milepost 37. Looked pretty diligently for STONY MAN RM 3 [DC4387] but without success.

At the north end of a 90° curve. Skyline Drive milepost 37 is just out the picture, to the left. The mark is at the base of a half-dead, double pine tree.

Twisted my ankle finding it. Its alittle bit off the trail. Great views from nearby stonyman peak.

As described.

Found while outhiking with the boys.

12:00 Noon - I found this with little difficulty by just using the coordinates. Once near the cliffs, I summited them and I was there.
