We found this mark while driving towards the nearby Nitro Vitrose Tank (which can be seen from around this mark.)

We drove around the block trying to decide where the GPS was pointing. Eventually we stopped near the mark and found it after a short search. It was high enough on the wall to be easily spotted. If I had the description with us, we would have found it even quicker.

The building is currently BJ's Family Billiards. Queenfish says she believes it used to be Western Union (sometime after the benchmark was placed.)

As you can see, Queenfish was well trained for Locationless cache hunting. The GPS read about 598 feet elevation near the mark. It was also showing us about 93 feet away from the mark.

From the map I had a good idea of where this one was. Drove around the block a couple of times looking for a garage. We go to church near by and my nittany lions like to stop and check it out each time.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
