Saw this while driving by on I-64. Did not look to be in good condition. Doubt it is still used.

Roadtrip find

Observed on the way to KC.

Got it during the nitro boomday

Who knew? I have noticed this from both sides of the river. I live on one Nitro and worked in St Albans. I always tried to figure out where my house was with this marker from the St Albans side. Cool, now I know.

I am here on Red Cross duty for Hurricane Sandy and the tower has helped me navigate the area.

Spotted this one while caching in town.

Seen this for the past 10 years didn't know it was a benchmark.

Pass by it daily, real easy find.

Was going after a couple of other marks and found this one after reading the posting in preparation to go after the others.

Found It

Found with RaiderRider

Not a real hard one to find. Just about the only thing left from Great Lakes and Flexsys plants.

Better get this one while it's still standing. Doesn't look too good.

Never knew this was a benchmark, and I live in Nitro! So living in Nitro I see it quit often!

I live in Nitro and never knew this was a bench mark. I see it almost everyday. Nice easy little find.

while out and around town went to see it

Actually seen this water tower a couple times... just didn't realise it was a benchmark... went by it with MizzKatx3 just to make the find official!

Found it

Easy landmark in Nitro..and WVHillbilly..Nitro was not formed due to WWII it was WWI...

I've been coming to Nitro once a year for many years, so I decided it was time to log a Benchmark here.
While I was planning this, I was amazed to see that GoogleEarth shows it complete with a shadow!
It could use some paint, but it's easy to spot!

photoNitro Water Tower

About all that's left of the factories that used to be in this little town made by World War II. It's still the hometown of the late Lew Burdette.

Found it - took its picture.

Found from site of J 5 BM

photoViscose Tank - Nitro, WV

Such a lack of detail on this tank. I had seen this a number of times in the past, but never got around to checking and logging this as a find. It's not in the best of shape at this time. It could definately use a paint job--if not replacement.

photoRiver side
We drove around the tank and took this picture from where the road ended on the river side (near an old Great Lakes location.)
photoFrom town
This picture was taken from near the J-5 benchmark across 25.

Looks like everything around it is being torn down, don't know if the tank will be taken down or not. Maninthewild and I hit the same bunch but on different days. I have taken too long to post them.
