City should have better considered this mark when paving.Could use better protection.

Found as described. Was scraped probably over the winter by a snow blade.

We walk to the bank and the store at least once a week...never noticed it before. If it had been a snake, we'd have been bitten

Right in the parking lot.

Found the mark. Amazingly this one has survided all the construction & paving in area over the years.

It sure looks like the disk is stamped S 38

I was in the area so I thought I'd look for this one again. Yes, the area has been leveled & cleared, but they did preserve the mark. The power pole mentioned in the description has been moved. The mark is now about 10 ft. SW of the pole. My reading: N 38*25.914 W082*01.444.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991. WARNING-Repeat measurements at this control monument indicate possible vertical movement.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
