In the distance

Went out on a 21 hour Ohio county run with gmarkusic, Stachey Pete, and CarpenterLuvaKatCrew. We had lots of fun and all tried to fill in the county grid to meet caching challenges.
Thanks for the fun.

Was out getting counties, had to get a benchmark or 2.

Spotted this one while driving in from the west.

It really stands above the rest of the area

What a beautiful church.

Found this while traveling through the area with Dame Deco, RN escape, Ohmom50, Curious George and Clint5566.

I am drawn to churches, so it being a benchmark is a bonus.
Catching up on logs, fixing to correct date.

On a road trip from So.Cal. to Ohio and back, doing some Geocaching and Benchmarking along the way. This stop was especially nice for me as this is the town that my father was born in way back in 1918.
The church is still here, still in good shape and probably will be for a very long time. My only addition to the description is that it is located at the interesection of 5th and Market Streets.

This is definitely one of the most interesting "benchmarks" I've seen. The Portsmouth area is truly rich in historical structures.

Original cathedral is still there. Steeple also appears to be original, however I highly doubt that the existing spire & cross are 120+ yrs. old. Never the less, I believe the "gable" noted is one of the steeple gables. I didn't see any other 'remarkable' gables on the cathedral.

This is most likely the oldest 'original' surveyor's reference mark I can remember seeing. I've found 1885 re-sets, but not originals.

Coords across the street to the west are: 38.44.063, 83.00.175, Elev. 538

Hallelujah, and pass the Tylenol!
