Easily found. Being a cacher means there's ALWAYS something to do, wherever you go.

Visited the St Louis Arch today with my wife. Once back in the outdoors my wife was using her phone and I decided to check the benchmap app on my phone to see if there was any benchmarks nearby. Sure enough, I was able to locate this one easily with no problem.

In town for a weeklong meeting, I got out early for a jog. This BM was referenced in the SLAGA County challenge (which I read but doubt I'll ever complete), so I knew about it. Took a couple of pics then continued the jog and grabbed a cache.[b][green]

It appears ArtMan and I took nearly the same photos, but I've uploaded them anyway.

At the Arch in St. Louis, a well known national memorial. Officially known as the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, it contains the Museum of Westward Expansion which is free. Only parking ($5.00 in the garage just to the north) and the ride to the top costs anything. The benchmark is on the corner of the abutment.

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
