My First FTF on a BenchMark. Found this with Geo*Trailblazer. We drove around and finnally figured we had to go get permission from a landowner to access the area. Luckily the landowner knew of culvert that ran under the tracks. After that it just took a little digging to uncover. I'll upload the pics soon.

The person sitting by the tracks is the landowner whose property we had to cross to find this mark. Luckily he knew about GPS's, and helped us locate the area.

THIS WAS PHANTOM491'S FIRST TO FIND FIRST TO FIND BENCHMARKS.
WE GAINED THE PERMISSION OF THE NEARBY LANDOWNER,BILL HOUSER AND HE TOOK US ACROSS HIS PROPERTY TO THE AREA OF THE MARK.
THE MARK WAS A LITTLE OFF ON COORDINATES BUT THE DATA SHEET AND DIRECTIONS PAYED OFF.
PHANTOM491 WILL BE UPLOADING THE PICTURES FOR THIS ONE,I DID NOT HAVE THE CAMEREA WITH ME.HE DID.

THE MARK IS IN GOOD SHAPE,IT WAS UNDER APPROXIMATELY 3 TO 4 INCHES OF DIRT ON TOP OF THE CULVERT.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
