SO, the azimuth mark was pretty easy also. Pretty much exactly 0.4 mi E of the benchmark. There is a witness post that I have passed hundreds of times and never seen, it is just inside a black chain link fence that surrounds city power and light vehicles. About 2 m N of the witness post, between the sidewalk and the curb, is the azimuth mark.

Found it. There is no witness post anymore. Arby's is no more; this is a pawn shop now. Didn't look for the azimuth mark - maybe later.

My First benchmark! Sorry, no pic, I don't have a Digital Camera YET! But I can tell you that this survey marker is alive and well on the North West corner of the intersection of Business Loop 70 and Range Line (763). Placed in 1992, it has a few scuffs from the old lawnmower. My GPS got me to within 8 feet!

TO REACH THE AZIMUTH MARK FROM THE STATION, GO EAST ON BUSINESS LOOP I-70 FOR .4 MI (0.6 KM) TO THE AZIMUTH MARK ON THE RIGHT AS DESCRIBED.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by GPS observations and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in February 2000.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The X, Y, and Z were computed from the position and the ellipsoidal ht.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The ellipsoidal height was determined by GPS observations and is referenced to NAD 83.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
