Found the benchmark today while out geocaching. The murals in the area are awesome.

This is a very easy one to spot, and I think hundreds of people pass it daily with out a clue it is there...

Still there and in good shape.

Recovered in good condition.

Station is located under the 4th St bridge over the BNSF railroad. It is next to the 3rd set of bridge supports north from the south end of the bridge, 2 ft. W of W support column, N. of driveway to old Santa Fe Railroad Depot, and about 10-12in above ground.

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1984 IN CANON CITY. IN CANON CITY, AT THE INTERSECTION OF 4TH STREET AND THE DENVER AND RIO GRANDE WESTERN RAILROAD, 64.6 M (211.9 FT) SOUTHWEST OF THE WEST CORNER OF THE SANTA FE RAILROAD STATION, 47.6 M (156.2 FT) SOUTHEAST OF THE NEAR RAIL, 4.9 M (16.1 FT) NORTHWEST OF THE NEAR RAIL OF THE SANTA FE RAILROAD, AND 0.3 M (1.0 FT) SOUTHWEST OF THE MOST SOUTHWEST ONE OF TWO COLUMNS OF THE SANTA FE TRACK OF THE 4TH STREET OVERPASS OF THE TRACKS. THE MONUMENT HAS BEEN PAINTED FLORSECENT ORANGE AND IS PROTECTED BY TWO 4 BY 4 WOODEN POSTS. THE MARK IS ABOVE LEVEL WITH THE TRACKS.

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
