Rechecking some benchmarks for the latest contest. Right where I remember on the Bodie Road.

I noticed the BM spray painted on the road so I made the quick turnaround to nab this one at the top of the road cut. It was stamped A185 1934 and listed as an elevation marker though no elevation was stamped on the cap.

We parked on the dirt road heading south just past the benchmark. I knew from the start that the North coordinate was pretty vague so I headed down the road until I had gotten pretty close then headed south. I assumed (incorrectly) that I would find the BM at 8084 feet so I merrily hiked south and up through 500' of sagebrush. My girlfriend wondered what the heck I was doing, and when she had caught up, took the GPS and the Benchmark description, noting that the 1940 description indicated it being 36 feet south of the centerline of the road. We returned to the waypoint indicated and then walked east along the ditch and within 2 minutes, viola! The coordinates I include here are what I got ontop of the marker with about 15' of accuracy from my Garmin Etrex Summit. Elevation by the way is 8,052'.

Coordinates off by over 200 feet SE of mark. On top edge of ditch to east of road. Will post corrected numbers soon.
