Out with Linda#1 caching in the area and decided to search for this benchmark. Like others before us the benchmark has a lot of paint on it , but we still could find it.

This is the last of four benchmarks I have logged this morning--the others being JS0755, JS0754, and JS0753.

The published coordinates are imprecise, but the detailed description of the location is, of course, exact. The marker is on the SW concrete pier of the Sunset Blvd overpass. The pier has been defaced by vandals, but the marker is painted a uniform off-white. As stated in the description, the marker is on the vertical face of the pier, facing the railway tracks, and when I was there, there was a thin stake driven into the ground to act as a signpost to the marker.

JS0752, defaced by vandals' paint, but fortunately, a uniform colour.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
