Today I found this benchmark easily. It is in good condition.

Waiting for my trailer at a nearby business, so when benchmarking. Updated coordinates took me right to it.

gave it a try and also found another nearbye benchmark that isnt on geocaching.com!

Found it thanks to the updated coords.

N 38° 47.161 W 121° 14.535

The published longitude for this benchmark is incomplete, and the lattitude is very imprecise! However, the instructions for finding it are very detailed. As I had just located JS0755, I merely had to walk 30 feet south to locate this one embedded in the granite. Unlike JS0755, it was not highlighted with pink paint, but it was nonetheless easy to locate.

I also logged JS0755, JS0753, and JS0752 this morning.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
