Found the remnants of a concrete abutment at 3rd and Vernon Streets. There was virtually nothing left; the northwest face of the abutment had fallen to the ground, and although we cleared off the debris and dirt, we found no evidence of the benchmark disk.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1969 0.8 MI SW FROM ROSEVILLE. 0.75 MILE SOUTHWEST ALONG THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY RAILROAD FROM THE STATION AT ROSEVILLE, AT THE JUNCTION OF VERNON AND SECOND STREETS, SET VERTICALLY IN THE NORTHWEST FACE OF THE CONCRETE ABUTMENT OF STEEL TRUSS WALKWAY 105.85 OVER THE TRACKS, 17.4 FEET SOUTHEAST OF THE SOUTHEAST RAIL OF THE SOUTHEAST TRACK, 35 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER OF THE JUNCTION, 25 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE CENTER LINE OF VERNON STREET, 1.3 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE WEST CORNER OF THE ABUTMENT, ABOUT 2 FEET HIGHER THAN THE TRACK AND 3 FEET LOWER THAN THE STREET.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
