Documented History (by the NGS)

01/01/1886 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
01/01/1909 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1909 STATION IS ON SUISUN POINT OPPOSITE THE TOWN OF BENICIA, BACK FROM THE EDGE OF THE BLUFF, ON THE N SIDE OF THE POINT, AND SO PLACED THAT ONE CAN SEE INTO SUISUN BAY AS WELL AS DOWN CARQUINES STRAIT. TWO SMALL LIVE-OAK TREES STANDING ON THE EDGE OF THE BLUFF JUST OUTSIDE OF THE PLOWED GROUND WERE BLAZED AND A COPPER NAIL DRIVEN INTO EAST BLAZE. THE MOST EASTERN OF THESE TREES IS 96 FEET 3 INCHES FROM THE STATION AND THE OTHER 79 FEET 11 INCHES. THE STATION IS MARKED BY A DRILL HOLE IN A STONE ABOUT 12 INCHES SQUARE SET 18 INCHES BELOW THE SURFACE OF THE GROUND. IN 1909 TWO REFERENCE STONES WERE SET NEAR THE EDGE OF THE BLUFF AND FLUSH WITH THE GROUND. ONE IS 6 BY 8 BY 14 INCHES IN SIZE AND A DRILL HOLE IN ITS TOP IS 33.50 METERS FROM THE STATION AND ON THE EXTENSION OF A LINE FROM MARTINEZ COURTHOUSE DOME THROUGH THE STATION. THE OTHER REFERENCE STONE IS 8 BY 10 BY 12 INCHES IN SIZE AND THE DRILL HOLE IN ITS TOP IS 36.53 METERS FROM THE STATION ON THE EXTENSION OF A LINE THROUGH THE STATION FROM A CHIMNEY NEAR A RED BUILDING ABOUT 1/4 MILE TO THE SE.
01/01/1922 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1922 (OWS) THE SUBSURFACE MARK WAS FOUND AS DESCRIBED. BOTH REFERENCE MARKS HAVE BEEN LOST DUE TO CAVING OF THE BLUFF. ADDITIONAL MARKS WERE ESTABLISHED AS FOLLOWS--SURFACE STATION MARK IS A STANDARD BRONZE DISK SET IN CONCRETE, AS DESCRIBED IN NOTE 1A. REFERENCE MARK IS A STANDARD BRONZE DISK SET IN CONCRETE IN A BOULDER, AS DESCRIBED IN NOTE 12D, IT IS 2 METERS W OF THE FENCE FORMING WESTERN BOUNDARY OF MOUNTAIN COPPER COMPANY, 12 METERS FROM THE EDGE OF THE BLUFF.
01/01/1927 by AOCO (MONUMENTED)
RECOVERY NOTE BY ASSOCIATED OIL COMPANY 1927 LETTER FROM ASSOCIATED OIL COMPANY, ASSOCIATED, CALIFORNIA, SEPTEMBER 23, 1927 STATES AS FOLLOWS--RECENTLY ONE OF OUR CREWS WHILE PLOWING FIRE GUARDS AROUND TANKS ON OUR BULLS HEAD PROPERTY DISLODGED YOUR TRIANGULATION STATION MONUMENT SUISUN POINT NO. 2.
01/01/1930 by LOCENG (MONUMENTED)
RECOVERY NOTE BY LOCAL ENGINEER (INDIVIDUAL OR FIRM) 1930 LETTERS FROM SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY, SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA--JUNE 5, 1930- WITH REFERENCE TO YOUR MONUMNT NO. 2 AT SUISUN POINT, NEAR MARTINEZ--THIS MONUMENT HAS EVIDENTLY BEEN STRUCK BY AN AUTOMOBILE AND HAS BEEN BADLY SET OUT OF LINE. IN LINE WITH CONSTRUCTION OF SUISUN BAY BRIDGE, WE HAVE SUFFICIENT OFFSET POINTS TO PLACE THIS MONUMENT BACK IN ITS ORIGINAL LOCATION. JULY 1, 1930--MONUMENT WAS FOUND TO BE .04 FOOT E OF POSITION IN WHICH IT WAS ORIGINALLY SET AND HAS NOW BEEN PLACED BACK BY SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY ENGINEERS IN ITS ORIGINAL LOCATION OVER POINT FOUND BURIED UNDERNEATH THE MONUMENT BLOCK. WE HAVE FENCED IN THE SUISUN POINT MONUMENT SO THAT THERE WILL BE NO FURTHER DISTURBANCE OF THE SAME.
01/01/1939 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1939 (RDH) STATION WAS RECOVERED AS DESCRIBED. E OF MARTINEZ ON THE HILL AT THE S END OF THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC RAILROAD BRIDGE, 65 METERS FROM THE SE CORNER OF THE WING WALL AT THE S END OF BRIDGE, 44.4 METERS ENE OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE BRIDGE, 20.4 METERS W OF NW CORNER OF ABANDONED HOUSE AND 19.3 METERS W OF SW CORNER OF THIS SAME HOUSE. STATION IS ABOUT 85 METERS INSHORE FROM HIGH-WATER LINE. THE STATION MONUMENT FALLS IN THE ROAD OF THE AUTOMOBILE PARKING AREA AND HAS BEEN SURROUNDED BY A CIRCULAR ROW OF STONES FOR PROTECTION. THERE IS ALSO A HIGH TENSION TRANSFORMER FOR THE POWER LINE JUST TO THE S OF STATION. STATION SHOWS NO EVIDENCE OF BEING MOVED AS STATED IN 1927 RECOVERY NOTE, AND STATEMENT PROBABLY REFERS TO DIFFERENT STATION AS THERE ARE NO TANKS AT THIS SITE, AND OLD ROADWAY HAS EXISTED FOR SOMETIME. HOWEVER, VERIFICATION BY TRIANGULATION HAD BEST BE MADE BEFORE USING THIS STATION FOR FUTURE TRIANGULATION. A 1939 PLANE TABLE OBSERVATIONS PROVED STATION WAS DIALODGED LITTLE, IF ANY.
01/01/1949 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1949 (CAG) THE STATION WAS RECOVERED AS DESCRIBED IN THE 1939 RECOVERY NOTE. A NEW HOME HAS BEEN ERECTED ON THE SITE OF THE ABANDONED HOUSE. IT IS 20.4 METERS EAST OF THE STATION. THE STATION IS IN THE CENTER OF A FLOWER BED AND IS SURROUNDED BY A CIRCULAR ROW OF STONES. THE STATION WAS NOT OCCUPIED IN 1949. DUE TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE RAILROAD BRIDGE AND OIL STORAGE TANKS ON SUISUN POINT, THE STATION DOES NOT COMMAND THE VISIBILITY THAT IT HAD WHEN ORIGINALLY ESTABLISHED. A GROVE OF WALNUT AND EUCALYPTUS TREES HAS GROWN UP NEAR THE STATION.
01/01/1956 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1956 (EEJ) THE STATION WAS RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION AND AS DESCRIBED BY R.D.H. 1939. THE REFERENCE MARK WAS SEARCHED FOR BUT NOT RECOVERED.
01/01/1962 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1962 (IRR) THE STATION MARK WAS RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION AND THE PREVIOUS DESCRIPTIONS ARE ADEQUATE. THE REFERENCE MARK COULD NOT BE RECOVERED AS A HOUSE OCCUPIES THE AREA WHERE THE MARK WAS SET. THE MARK WAS RESTAMPED SUISUN POINT 2 1886 1930 ON THIS DATE.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in March 1994. The horizontal coordinates are valid at the epoch date displayed above. The epoch date for horizontal control is a decimal equivalence of Year/Month/Day.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.) The vertical order pertains to the superseded datum.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
