Holy smokes... I commented on this tower just the other day whilst driving to a friends. Had no idea it was a benchmark! Thanks BDM, without a check of your stats, I would not have known.

Hard to miss if your looking for it.

Drive by all the time and never noticed this huge tower! I tried to get close, but there is a fence around the base of the tower.

Found this today. The tower is still there but the radio staion building is gone and a auto paint/repair center is there.

Still painted red and white.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1959 (JCM) THE STATION IS LOCATED IN THE NORTH CENTRAL PART OF THE CITY OF VALLEJO, 450 FEET WEST OF THE KNBA TRANSMITTING STUDIO AT 3267 SONOMA BOULEVARD, AND IS A GUYED, STEEL, TRANSMITTING ANTENNA, 228 FEET HIGH, PAINTED ALTERNATELY RED AND WHITE, AND WITH A FLASHING RED LIGHT CENTERED ON TOP OF THE MAST, WHICH WAS THE POINT INTERSECTED.

RECOVERY NOTE BY LOCAL ENGINEER (INDIVIDUAL OR FIRM) 1963 RECOVERED BY J.P. BERRY. THE TARGET WAS RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION. TO REACH THE STATION IS AS FOLLOWS--FROM THE POST OFFICE IN VALLEJO, PROCEED 0.15 MILE S ON MARIN TO GEORGIA. TURN E ON GEORGIA AND PROCEED 0.9 MILE TO SOLANO AVE., TAKE HALF LEFT ON SOLANO AND PROCEED 0.6 MILE TO SPRINGS ROAD OVERPASS OVER U.S. 40. PROCEED OVER SPRINGS ROAD OVERPASS 1.3 MILES TO THE E TO COLUMBIA PARKWAY. TURN N ON COLUMBIA PARKWAY AND PROCEED 1.05 MILES TO LAKE HERMAN ROAD. TURN E ON LAKE HERMAN ROAD AND PROCEED 0.45 MILE TO A DIRT ROAD ON LEFT WITH A CABLE ARRANGEMENT FOR BARING ENTRANCE. FROM THIS POINT, THE TARGET IS VISIBLE TO RIGHT OF DIRT ROAD APPROXIMATELY 15 DEGREES ON TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN. PROCEED ALONG DIRT ROAD WHICH WINDS UP THE MOUNTAIN AND PASSES WITH 15 YARDS OF THE TARGET.
