The south end of the former Ocean City-Somers Point bridge has been demolished where it enters the island. A new southbound bridge has been built and it is currently carrying traffic in both directions. A new northbound bridge is to be built at the location where the old bridge was.

From the new bridge looking northeast toward where the former 9th Street approach to the old bridge was. The worker in the middle is pointing toward where Bank Azimuth mark used to be.

Looking northwest toward the remains of the old drawbridge. The new southbound bridge is in the background.

Easy find, but scary to get to. It is between the 3rd and 4th concrete guardrail post as rscarr2 said. I went out to make sure it was there and then I motioned for the kids to come quickly. The dangerous ones are the exciting ones!!

Found today at 14:35. Very Sunny and Warm June day. Traffic too heavy to risk getting on the bridge for a GOOD straight down photo, but took some pics from the side. Disk can be seen in the shadows. Appears to be in good condition.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991. WARNING-Repeat measurements at this control monument indicate possible vertical movement.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
