The Gang was up in Philly to do some exploring, caching, and to take the Duck Ride on this most beautiful spring day. Bubba, Bubba, BamBam and BooBoo enjoyed the sights, sounds and especially the smells of the city. Of course, I managed to pick up a Benchmark or two as well. I had done a bit of research and knew this one was near the Betsy Ross House. While on the Duck Boat, we passed by the Homestead and I started looking around. Imagine how pleased I was when we caught a red light at just the right time to allow me to snap a quick pic of this one! It doesn't get any easier than that!

benchmark

My daughter and I came down here to check out the nearby costume shop for possible Halloween costumes. We parked right near Betsy Ross' house and spotted this benchmark as we were walking to the shop. It took me 2 and a half months to get around to checking to see if this benchmark was in the geocaching database. I was happy to see that it is. A picture of my GPS receiver with the benchmark is attached.

Looking west across the mark up Arch Street, towards Center City.

The logs confused me... none of the NGS recoveries mention the Corn Exchange National Bank & Trust, which seems to have been what this building was at some point.
It is now called FUSE, Fostering Undergraduate Exposure on Location. It is basically an art studio.

I thought it looked familiar when I approached it and was interested to read that it was the Real World house.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • This Tidal Bench Mark is designated as VM 368 by the Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
