It mus have been a bad day for the satellites, because i found this 160 feet from where my Garmin 650t was pointing. I used the descriptiom instead and had no problem that way. My Garmin is NEVER that far off - not sure why it was so bad today.

What a surprise to find a Station (JV1964), two Reference Marks (RM2 - JV1966) and the AZ Mark!
The location picture uploaded by a previous finder made the Station and RM1 & 2 easy. The AZ Mark was in tall grass.

Found this one while exploring the Gettysburg Battle field. We weren't going to do any benchmark hunting, but I found a replica keychain in the giftshop and decided to go for this one.

Takes a lickin' and still tickin' (well, thankfully, it's really not ticking). Found while touring the area.

Second benchmark in this area. Found both with no problem.

Station recovered as described in good condition. Station GETTYSBURG, RM2, and AZ MK also recovered.

Found while touring Gettysburg. Mark is in good shape.

Found this by accident as I was traversing a stone wall that was blocking a foot path. My ever observant son located another benchmark nearby,

was easier to find then the one nearby

Found after removing snow. Thanks to previous finders.

Found on an early morning walk around Gettysburg.

Found while learning more about Gettysburg!

RM1 N39°49.302' W77°13.725'

1/2 of mjsneakypete was in the area visiting Gettysburg and came upon this benchmark without the aid of a GPS. A quick photo and some odd looks from the two people traveling with her and she was on her way. The disk was in good condition.

Found this one just as described.

It was great to find a benchmark here. We were in WV for work from Oregon and we were not supposed to have time for any side trips, so I did not bring my GPS receiver with me. As thing turned out we have some extra time so we drove over here from Clarksburg WV to see the battle field.

Greetings Geocachers/Benchmarkers,

For me, considerable confusion still exists with this collection of benchmarks, reference marks, and azimuth marks.

Nevertheless, I found this reference mark on Cemetery Hill in Gettysburg, as pictured by embra and juanbob.

My thanks to embra for assistance in correctly identifying and recovering this mark.

Happy Benchmarking,

Wife saw this one first as we wondered cemetary hill. Mark is in excellent shape right near stone wall.

This was easily located from the description. I'm including a couple pics because there is some confusion in my mind about the station mark, RM1, and RM2. I think I found the first two, but not RM2 (JV1966).

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
