Recovered in poor condition....would not have found w/out a metal detector - it is on the western edge of an unpaved driveway and was covered by about 2-3" of loose dirt & stones. The disk is tilted about 30°. Updated measurements are: 16.5 feet south of the centerline of Pond Road, 17 feet southeast and perpendicular to the SE rail at the crossing..

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1935 1.7 MI N FROM BENDERSVILLE. ABOUT 1.7 MILES NORTH ALONG THE READING CO. RAILWAY FROM THE STATION AT BENDERSVILLE, ADAMS COUNTY, 169 FEET SOUTH OF POLE 17+35, AT A PRIVATE-ROAD CROSSING, 21 FEET EAST OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE MAIN TRACK, AND 12 FEET SOUTH AT THE CENTER LINE OF THE ROAD. A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED U 100 1935 AND SET IN THE TOP OF A CONCRETE POST.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
