Found it easy enough. I can't believe I haven't noticed these benchmarks before.

This is still a surprise that they haven't been destroyed.

The station mark and Reference Mark 2 were recovered in good condition. RM 2 is at N 39° 16.297 W 081° 31.772. Reference Mark 1 and the azimuth mark were searched for and not found. The concrete base of the cannon where RM 1 was set has been redone.

I am surprised that someone hasn't distroyed the area since it seats above the ground high enough to fall over.

Didn't try to find the azimuth mark.

Couldn't find Reference Mark 1. A cannon is there, but no disk.

BM and Reference Mark 2 are there, in slightly beat-up condition.

Found at the pavilion. I also found Reference Mark 2 but couldn't find RM 1 at the cannon.

RM 1 is supposed to be in the concrete base of the cannon. I couldn't find any trace of it.

Love the park! wish i spent more time there growing up! took parents, thought dad might like benchmarking. I think it's pretty cool.

Found as described.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in April 1998.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
