We spotted this one while geocaching in the area.

Two benchmarks at this courthouse. The building and benchmark are in great condition. This is a fairly new benchmark compared to most I have found, monumented in 1967. That must account for part of the condition and clarity of the mark. Now i understand the designation--it it the elevation of this disk.

Found as described.

Found with terra di madre. We walked past this benchmark many times on our way to and from work last year (photographers for county auditor property revaluation). My GPS is my phone and camera.

a unique feature of this grand courthouse is the "monogrammed" arches above the various county offices.

Found while benchmark hunting for the contest. Never knew this was here.

Survey disc at the Ross County Courthouse.

Found while looking for the chiseled square.

Always new this one was here, but stopped by for a visit anyway and to find JY0461 nearby which I walk right past all the time and never new of it. If you have time go to the second floor and look around.

Found very easily! Like Q, I had seen this one before but never really knew its significance. I'm getting a fun history lesson here. Thanks!

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
