Was needing this for a survey and found it laying on the ground.

The tent is still there..............and unbelievably so is the tablet disk. It has been broken off the crumbling concrete and was found laying on top of the footer. First benchmark find in Indiana!

Found benchmark, but it wan't attached to the bridge pier anymore. It may not be long for this world.
There also seems to be someone living under the bridge as there was a tent set up.

What do you know...only .12 miles from one of my caches - Berkley's woods on the other side of the river. (photo) It was the old written description that I needed. GPSr kept losing track down there.

If it hadn't been for the geocacher before (who uploaded pictures) I don't think I could have found this one. Still proved to be difficult, even with extra info. Wonder what that fisherman thought I was doing! Took some great pictures, from quiet different angles (seeing how I was underneath!) What a great adventure...what more could a girl ask for.....a brand new GPS in hand, a fisherman who quiet possibly thinks your a freak,my first found survey marker all by myself...& look.... DeBrands candy store.... I'll have two chocolate turtles...what a way to end the day!!!!!!!!!!!!

We finally found one! This was a great adventure. At first we parked by the old discovery zone building but realized we were on the wrong side of the river. After we crossed in our car, we parked at the Gateway Country store and went underneath the bridge to find it. The dictription on this page helped us find it more than the GPS did.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
