Saw this while in the area for MOGA

These were used for air navigational aids at one time. Did a search and found 24 other vortacs listed as marks in states all over the country. Of all those only two others besides this one have been logged at this date.

Close as I could get. It's fenced off and .2 mile off of road.

01/01/1974 by NGS (FIRST OBSERVED)
DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1974 (WOM) VORTAC DECATUR DEC IS AN INVERTED ICE-CREAM CONE SHAPED STRUCTURE ATOP A SQUARE BUILDING WITH CIRCULAR ROOF. THE COMPLETE STRUCTURE IS PAINTED WHITE AND HAS A COMBINED HEIGHT OF ABOUT 30 FEET. THE VORTAC IS LOCATED ABOUT 3-1/4 MILES NORTHWEST OF DALTON CITY, 2-3/4 MILES SOUTHEAST OF MT ZION AND 1-1/4 MILES SOUTHWEST OF HERVEY CITY. TO REACH FROM THE RAILROAD CROSSING IN THE SMALL VILLAGE OF HERVEY CITY, GO SOUTH ON OILED ROAD FOR 1.1 MILES TO DRIVEWAY ON THE RIGHT. TURN RIGHT AND GO WEST FOR 0.2 MILE TO THE VORTAC. STATION IS THE TOP CENTER OF THE CONE.

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in October 1999.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
