Found all the marks in great shape, except for the azimuth mark. The witness post for the azimuth mark was gone, but I suspect the mark is probably still there, just buried under lots of thick grass and/or a bit of dirt.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1950 (RLE) THE STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 15.0 MILES WEST OF STOCKTON AND ABOUT 9.0 MILES NORTHEAST OF BOGUE ON THE TOP OF A PROMINENT HILL IN PASTURE LAND OWNED BY MRS. CHRISTINE M. WEBSTER OF 1307 SOUTH GARRISON, CARTHAGE, MISSOURI. IT IS ABOUT 0.5 MILE NORTH OF U.S. HIGHWAY NO. 24, 75 YARDS EAST OF A FENCE CORNER, 3.0 FEET EAST OF A WITNESS POST AND IS DIRECTLY UNDER AN EAST-WEST FENCE. IT PROJECTS 10 INCHES AND IS STAMPED ALCONA 1950. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS LOCATED ON THE SOUTHWEST SLOPE OF THE HILL ABOUT 4.0 FEET BELOW THE ELEVATION OF THE STATION. IT IS 159.0 FEET SOUTH OF A FENCE CORNER AND 1.0 FOOT EAST OF A FENCE. IT PROJECTS 4 INCHES AND IS STAMPED ALCONA NO 1 1950. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS LOCATED AT THE WEST EDGE OF THE PASTURE AND IS ABOUT THE SAME ELEVATION AS THE STATION. IT IS 240.0 FEET NORTH OF A FENCE CORNER AND 1.0 FOOT EAST OF A FENCE. IT PROJECTS 2 INCHES AND IS STAMPED ALCONA NO 2 1950. THE DISTANCE BETWEEN REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 AND REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS 399.0 FEET. THE AZIMUTH MARK IS 25.0 FEET WEST OF THE CENTER OF A GRADED ROAD, 1.5 FEET SOUTH OF A WITNESS POST AND 1.0 FOOT EAST OF A FENCE. IT PROJECTS 2 INCHES AND IS STAMPED ALCONA 1950. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE JUNCTION OF U.S. HIGHWAY NO. 24 AND U.S. HIGHWAY NO. 183 ONE HALF BLOCK WEST OF THE POST OFFICE IN STOCKTON, GO WEST ON U.S. HIGHWAY NO. 24 FOR 14.85 MILES TO A CROSSROAD. HERE TURN RIGHT AND GO NORTH ON A GRADED ROAD FOR 0.5 MILE TO A WIRE GATE ON THE LEFT JUST AFTER PASSING A FENCE CORNER, TURN LEFT THROUGH THE WIRE GATE AND GO WEST ALONG THE NORTH SIDE OF A FENCE FOR 0.45 MILE TO THE TOP OF THE HILL AND THE STATION AS DESCRIBED. TO REACH THE AZIMUTH MARK FROM THE STATION, GO EAST ALONG THE NORTH SIDE OF A FENCE FOR 0.45 MILE TO A WIRE GATE, PASS THROUGH GATE AND TURN LEFT ON A GRADED ROAD AND GO NORTH FOR 0.2 MILE TO THE TOP OF A RISE AND THE AZIMUTH MARK ON THE LEFT AS DESCRIBED. HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE STATION MARK 22 METERS.

  • The orthometric height was scaled from a topographic map.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
