My first benchmark.... and it's in Colorado!!

We stopped here to get the geocache on the other side of the road and saw the benchmark from the car! I like these accidental finds. Benchmark in good shape!

Couldn't find the cache across the street, but I stopped to look at this benchmark during my drive from Salina to CO Springs to meet fellow cachers Geoconsumer and Commander Overlord. We located some very important caches in CO and Kansas on our way to GWXII.Thanks for sharing

Found on the way back to MN via KS. Hard to pass up a 2fer!

Found this while getting cache Jeeperz 86/149 cache

Found while getting a near by cache

Found while caching very near by...

Doing cache across street.

Logged this one while doing a Jeepers cache.

Same as the rest - found while caching!

Came across this while geocaching.

Found while looking for Jeeperz Geocache. Didn't find cache, but spotted benchmark. Cool spot for one of these; the view was nice with the clouds casting long shadows across the undulating landscape. Can see why the Kiowa and Arapaho did not want to leave this land to ranchers and farmers!

Cool, another benchmark.

Found it while doing the cache next door.

Cool, first benchmark I think! Fun to find along with a cache right next to it!!!

Not even close to being our first find, but it will be our first logged visit

Couldn't miss this one if tried.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in 1992. * This is a POSTED BENCH MARK height. Code A indicates a distribution rate of 0.0 thru 1.0 mm/km.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
