photoKK0145 context

I had to step up to the plate.

spotted while getting a nearby geocache

Was out to grab the near by Geo cache and came across this.

Found 2 for 1 with the geocache

Couldn't help but spot this one while locating the geocache just feet away. Still in good shape

Found with animjason while geocaching. Second time I have been here

Found with the nearby geocache, wonder what this staircase is for???

I saw this while geocaching nearby.

Now where did those steps lead? Found the mark quickly and snapped some photos!

Says in the original description that this is on a landing. Maybe a landing site for UFOs...

Found while geocaching.

Very interesting spot!

FOUND THIS WHEN I FOUND A NEARBY CACHE.

Cool stairs!

Found In Good order

Old concrete stairs - the rest of the structure no longer there.

Near a geocache. On an "unstable" structure.

Found with Justified returning home from a high-altitude balloon chase out by Limon. We need to get out this way more often

I wonder what the building was that the steps belong too?

Touring de plains!

My first benchmark! This one was an easy find. Kind of hard to miss I must say.

One of the most interesting places for a benchmark I have seen

Found this one while caching on a rainy Saturday afternoon! What a strange, strange place for a benchmark!

foumd while caching nearby/....

my first bench mark

found this bench mark hunting for caches near by. it was almost a two for one event as the cache is maybe 5 feet from the bench mark.

Found while doing cache nearby. Can't figure out what it is attached to??

Discovered it in good condition while geocaching nearby.
Enjoyed the history of the locale and my mind's eye was focused on the rest of the structure this was part of.

Right by geocache Jeeperz1&2 86/105 (GC164V2) by jeeperz1&2

Found and logged this one while going for a cache.

I'm glad I now know the history of the steps!

Found this one very close to the Jeeperz1&2 86/105 cache on 07-Jun-08.

Found it while caching. Nice set of stairs.

A local friend of mine tells me that these stairs used to lead to an old school house. He couldn't remember the name of it but he did remember that it was torn down in the 1950s and the lumber was used to build a house in Simla. There used to be a lot of old one room school houses out here in the country.

I guess they expected those steps to remain there for a long time when they put in that benchmark.

Came across this while geocaching.

Found it while geocaching nearby. Very interesting - wonder why these steps are here.

Visions of an old building attatched to the steps bearing the BM!

Someone has tried to take it from the steps, but it is still there in good condition.

NEW DESCRIPTION-- 16.4 MILES EAST ALONG STATE HWY. 86 FROM THE COURTHOUSE AT KIOWA, ELBERT COUNTY, 21.7 MILES WEST ALONG STATE HWY. 86 FROM RIVER BEND, ELBERT COUNTY, 89 FEET SW OF THE CENTER OF THE JCT. Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in 1992. * This is a POSTED BENCH MARK height. Code A indicates a distribution rate of 0.0 thru 1.0 mm/km.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
