Wasn't planning on finding this BM today, but I spotted the witness post as I drove by and had to stop. Been sitting here a while... Dirt is starting to creep around the marker's setting, but the disk is still in great condition.

DESCRIBED BY US GEOLOGICAL SURVEY 1970 15.4 MI E FROM KIOWA. NEW DESCRIPTION-- 13.4 MILES EAST ALONG STATE HWY. 86 FROM THE COURTHOUSE AT KIOWA, ELBERT COUNTY, THENCE 1.9 MILES NORTH ALONG A GRAVEL ROAD TO A T-ROAD SOUTH, THENCE 1.6 MILES EAST ALONG A GRAVEL ROAD TO THE TOP OF A RISE, 285 FEET EAST OF THE JCT. WITH A GRAVEL ROAD NORTH, 24 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE ROAD, AND 6 FEET SOUTH OF THE ROW FENCE. A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED U 52 1934, AND SET IN THE TOP OF A CONCRETE POST.

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in 1992. * This is a POSTED BENCH MARK height. Code A indicates a distribution rate of 0.0 thru 1.0 mm/km.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
