Day four and our final day of our four day caching trip to CO/NE/KS. Created our final list with much more of the same type target caches and hope to get to as many as we can before turning in the rental and flying home tonight. Thanks to all the COs who placed and maintain these caches for us to enjoy. If I haven't already done so, I will be sending the answers for any caches that require them for the both of us by the end of the night when back at the hotel. Thanks!!

Found it.

I think this one will be here a long time. Nearby business is Zomato, formerly known as Urbanspoon. Benchmark in really good condition.

A look at building with benchmark at right. Zomato, formerly Urbanspoon, occupying the nearby space.

Spotted this benchmark while walking in the area and admiring the old buildings.

Enjoying discovering new sights in downtown via caching and waymarking. Probably have walked past this one a few times.

Found this as I was walking by. I have never seen one on the side of a building before. Thought it was neat.

In town for a couple of days. Found a few of the benchmarks close to where we were staying. This was one of them.

Saw this while downtown.

In town for NCAA Basketball and figured I would do a bit of benchmarking as well.

Mark is still there - other's pictures are identical to mine, so I won't post them...

Easily located, however the given co-ordinates as shown on the map take you to the wrong side of the block. The additional co-ordinates I gave are the WGS84 co-ords.

Found in the rain in Denver.

Found with xburrows on a lunchtime outing that kept being postponed. I love finding benchmark disks, and I was looking forward to finding this one. My GPS could not obtain signals for at least 45 minutes of being outside downtown. Although the GPS'r was recognizing altitude, it still thought I was somewhere in Conifer.

Definitely still intact. Definitely not where the GPS coordinates say they are. It’s on a wall on Champa Street between 17th and 18th, around the block from where the GPS says it is

This has to be the most words I've ever seen on a building cornerstone. Found the benchmark while attending the Geological Society of American in Denver, 2007.

This one was a little of a hike from the hotel; but when you are in town (for a conference) with nothing to do while waiting for the meetings to start tomorrow a little benchmarking and geocaching (earthcaching) is in order. Found this one based on description and photo's as my signal lock on the GPSR was just terrible among all these tall buildings. Found on 04/14/2007.

Found while attending FEMA's MapMod Denver Summit.

Obtaining coordinates in Downtown Denver can be difficult. I did, however, find it from the pictures.

I’m on a business trip in Denver, Colorado – so I take the chance to catch some caches and benchmarks in the evening. I had some problems with my GPS to find the right location.
May this is because of many buildings around.
Best regards

P.S. Pictures can be delivered later...

Right out in the open, on the side of a building.

Close to work. My GPSr was not reading correctly with the tall buildings.

One block from the office, just had to check it out. With the lousy signal, my readings were:N39 44.881 W104 59.526 elev 5286.

Found it as described. Don't know that I've ever looked eye-to-eye with a benchmark before...

found as described at 4:20 pm

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1939 AT DENVER. AT DENVER, DENVER COUNTY, ON CHAMPA STREET BETWEEN SEVENTEENTH AND EIGHTEENTH STREETS, AT THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF THE DENVER NATIONAL BANK BUILDING, IN THE GRANITE BLOCK DIRECTLY ABOVE THE CORNERSTONE, AND 4.5 FEET ABOVE THE SIDEWALK. A UNITED STATES GEOLOGICAL SURVEY STANDARD DISK, STAMPED 5224 AND SET VERTICALLY.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in 1992. * This is a POSTED BENCH MARK height. Code B indicates a distribution rate of 1.1 thru 2.0 mm/km.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
