Bench Mark L 258 was recovered in good condition. It was as described, except that there is no longer a station in Deer Trail. The mark is about 10 feet southeast of railroad Milepost 579.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1938 5.5 MI SE FROM DEER TRAIL. IN ELBERT COUNTY, 5.5 MILES SOUTHEAST ALONG THE UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD FROM THE STATION AT DEER TRAIL, ARAPAHOE COUNTY, AT MILEPOST 579, 125 FEET SOUTH OF THE CENTERLINE OF U.S HIGHWAY 40, ABOUT 100 FEET NORTH OF THE TRACK, AND IN LINE WITH A ROW OF POLES. A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED L 258 1938 AND SET IN THE TOP OF A CONCRETE POST.

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (G = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
