My son and I were visiting the college for the Maritime College Eagle Scout Fraternity Camporee with our Troop. I had some time to locate this benchmark.

Found in good condition as described.

Two important notes:

1) The construction of the Throgs Neck Bridge has altered the shore line in this area, although the sidewalk and bulkhead are still in position.

2) There is a police booth near the anchorage of the Throgs Neck Bridge which is very near this mark. Photographs of the bridge are not permitted so it would be advisable to check with the officer on duty before taking any pictures and explain what you are doing. Because of this I took no area shot of this mark.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
