Found it, hard to miss as it currently has a red spray painted circle around it. I have noticed that work has been done on some of this overpasses and the concrete elements are being replaced.

Found easily, and it's in great condition, even with a light coat of paint. It's on the northwest corner of the overpass, on the north face, about 2 feet off the ground, and surrounded by a faded orange circle of paint.

Rode past this benchmark today. My first benchmark found...yipppy!

Parked the car a half block away. It is easily seen from a distance. Looks good.

last of 6 benchmarks found today with youngest daughter Lucy! Its in good shape.

Found as described in good condition.

During my long tiring walk across Astoria, this is the only mark on my list that was a found. Some days are just like that.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
