Found during one of our recent trips to Manhattan.

Very easy to find as long as you ignore the information about the soldier's monument. It is not near that at all. The other referenced distances and directions are correct. You have to climb over the fence or wall to get to the outcropping. Climb on top of the rock and you will see the carvings as described.

On south end of the rock ledge just behind the wall at the NW corner of 66th and Fifth.

My sis found it. I was just along for the ride.

2nd benchmark we found while in NYC.

Found it.®

That wasn't us you saw climbing the fence! It's several hundred feet south of the Soldier's Monument! Found it without too much trouble.

This was a cool find. The presence of the letter B begs the question of where A and C, et al are. Hmmm.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
