Found in good condition as described. The bridge area is now very heavily overgrown compared to how it looked in Papa Bear's 2007 photo. Also - the marker is not 5 feet from the curb. It's 5 feet from the corner of the bridge, but that corner itself is the entire breakdown lane's width from the roadway's curb, about 9 feet.

I spent a fairly productive Tuesday and Thursday this week in Yonkers, New York, near where it borders New York City (The Bronx). I had 4 FOUNDs out of 8 stations, as well as 1 FOUND for 4 stations I checked that I had previously not found.

This was one of the easy ones. The mark is on the south side of the SW pier of the Wakefield Bridge, about 2 - 3 feet above the ground level. To get to this mark, walk in the grassy area on the north side of the entrance ramp that leads from Bronx Rive Road to the Bronx River parkway (which is just south of the bridge on the Yonkers side). You can walk right up to the bridge pier with the mark without getting onto the busy roadway.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
