After hiking along the Long Path on a beautiful day, I made a short road walk to find this benchmark. After clearing vines away, I also uncovered RM 1. Could not find RM 2, or the original WM. Easily found the two concrete footings. Great vistas from this location!

I spent a sunny (but cold) Saturday hiking along the Palisades from Greenbrook Sanctuary to the NY-NJ state line. I worked my way through 6 triangualtion stations and found almost everything I was looking for. I spent almost half of my time at KU4051 "HIGH POINT" and managed to find 4 of 5 reference marks plus a witness mark, but alas, not the ststion mark. Still all-in-all a very productive day.

Found just off the side of the road on the cliff edge. The station and RM 1 were easy to find. I measured teh distance and diredtdion to RM2 but didn't see anything. I got out the metal detector to scann the area and then realized that there was a drill hole and the impression of aa disk with cement right where I was standing. This is likely the remnant of RM 2. The Witness Mark which was a large stone at the side of the road, was not found. I assume the stone was lost when the current rock wall was built.

RM 1 is on a boulder to the south of the station. The poison Ivy was not a problem at this time.

Only the drill hole and impression of Reference Mark #2 remain.

This concrete footing is the first witness mark described in the 1992 NJGS log. It is near RM #2. Not to be confused with the WM described in the 1930 CGS log.

This concrete footing is the second witness mark described in the 1992 NJGS log. It is southwest of the station.

The large cross painted on the rock makes this one had to miss.

Found it.® Benchmarking with Harry. Beautiful views!

Found by description and coordinates. Not for the acrophobic. (Wait a minute. I have terrible fears of heights!) It is, indeed, 6.6 feet from the edge of the 400-500 foot drop off the edge of the Palisades. The rock containing the witness mark seems to have been replaced by a rock wall. It was not found.

Control Text

 • The horizontal coordinates were established by GPS observations and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in May 1999.
 • The orthometric height was determined by GPS observations and a high-resolution geoid model.
 • The X, Y, and Z were computed from the position and the ellipsoidal ht.
 • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
 • The ellipsoidal height was determined by GPS observations and is referenced to NAD 83.
