Found in fair condition as described. The rod is no longer visible as the sleeve is full of pebbles. The cover has been replaced, as well, and the designation begins with the letter "R." Interestingly, this mark is also a Tidal Benchmark, and there are three recently set (2014) Tidal benchmarks near the boat launch, where 07E 19N used to be.

DESCRIBED BY SIDNEY B BOWNE AND SON 1989 THE POINT IS LOCATED IN PORT WASHINGTON, TOWN OF OYSTER BAY, 103 FEET (31.4 M) SOUTH OF THE CENTERLINE OF LITTLE WORTH LANE AND 221 FEET (67.4 M) NORTH WEST OF THE CENTERLINE OF PROSPECT AVENUE,IN TAPPEN BEACH PARK ASPHALT WALK NORTHWEST OF THE SWIMMING POOL. THE LOCATION TIES ARE 74.1 FEET (22.6 M) FROM THE CORNER OF THE RAILROAD TIE PLANTER, 49.0 FEET (14.9 M) FROM THE 4 INCH TREE AND 1.5 FEET (0.5 M) FROM THE PARK BENCH SUPPORT. THIS POINT IS A COMMON AZIMUTH POINT FOR BOTH 07E19N(SSN0719) AND 07E20N(SSN0720).

RECOVERY NOTE BY NOS ATLANTIC MARINE CENTER 1990 (CSM) STATION IS LOCATED ON LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK, NEAR THE NORTH SHORE OF THE ISLAND NEAR THE SOUTHWEST SIDE OF THE VILLAGE OF SEA CLIFF ON THE EAST SHORE OF HEMPSTEAD HARBOR IN TAPPEN BEACH PARK NEAR THE NORTH LIMITS OF THE PARK ON A ROUNDED POINT OF LAND WITH A RIPRAP SHORELINE JUST NORTHWEST OF THE TAPPEN POOL NEAR THE WEST END OF A SLIM TRIANGLE OF GRASSY SOIL FORMED BETWEEN THE AHPHALT SIDEWALK WHICH FOLLOWS THE SHORE. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE JUNCTION OF GLENWOOD ROAD AND SHORE ROAD JUST NORTH OF THE LILCO GENERATING STATION IN GLEN COVE LANDING, GO NORTH ON SHORE ROAD FOR 0.85 KM (0.50 MI) TO THE ENTRANCE TO TAPPEN BEACH PARK ON THE LEFT, TURN LEFT INTO THE PARK AND PROCEED 0.25 KM (0.15 MI) TO THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF THE PARKING LOT AND TO THE STATION ABOUT 50 M (164.0 FT) NORTH-NORTHWEST. THE STATION MARK IS A CLASS A MARK CONSISTING OF A STAINLESS STEEL ROD DRIVEN TO AN UNKNOWN DEPTH ENCASED IN A 2.5 CM DIAMETER GREASE FILLED PVC SLEEVE. THE STAINLESS STEEL ROD IS TOPPED BY THE DATUM POINT WHICH IS CRIMPED TO THE ROD AND HAS A CENTERPUNCH IN ITS TOP CENTER. THE MARK IN ITS ENTIRETY IS THEN ENCASED IN A 15 CM DIAMETER PVC SLEEVE WITH AN ALUMINUM ALLOY CAP ATTACHED TO THE TOP WHICH HAS THE LOGO NCDPW CAST IN RAISED LETTERS AND A RAISED PLATE WHICH IS STAMPED ---07E 19N AZ---. THE LOGO CAP IS FLUSH WITH THE GROUND AND A SMALL SPANNER WRENCH OR THE EQUIVALENT IS REQUIRED TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE DATUM POINT. IT IS 13 M (42.7 FT) WEST OF A DWARF WILLOW TREE GROWING AT THE END OF THE SLIM TRIANGLE OF SOIL FORMED BY THE ASPHALT SIDEWALK, 6 M (19.7 FT) NORTH OF THE SHOREWARD EDGE OF THE SOUTH RIPRAP SHORELINE, 6 M (19.7 FT) EAST OF THE SHOREWARD EDGE OF THE WEST RIPRAP SHORELINE AT THE POINT, 5 M (16.4 FT) SOUTH OF THE SHOREWARD EDGE OF THE NORTH RIPRAP SHORELINE AND 1.12 M (3.67 FT) EAST OF THE NORTH SUPPORT POLE FOR THE LONE PARK BENCH ON THE POINT. Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by GPS observations and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in January 1999.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The X, Y, and Z were computed from the position and the ellipsoidal ht.
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The ellipsoidal height was determined by GPS observations and is referenced to NAD 83.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
