Found this benchmark while at a nearby cache. The paint is gone from previous pictures and concrete is starting to crumble.

Found it.®

Found as described. Off Haul Road in Wayne, NJ. Tracks are out of service, and owned by New York Susquehanna and Western Railroad. This would probably have been much harder, except the cross is painted with an orange cross. The cross is faint, but still there.

Coordinates quite a ways off from described location. Railroad Bridge over the Pompton River still extant, rail road tracks now out of service. Published coordinates place far away from location. Will recheck after snow melts. Rechecked this date and it is there, but since 2/21 when I first came, a new chiseled cross has been placed on a curb in the northern curbline of Haul Road about 100 yards SE of original mark, so the crew had marked it out for me, NJGS

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
