Discovered this with Lizrdh while finding the multi-cache nearby. Took us longer to find this than the geo, because it was buried under a thin layer of snow. Some photos and descriptions from previous finders helped us narrow it down. Definitely still here, and in great shape too. Love that gold color - every time I've seen one in this hue, its been spotless. Also a cool historic rail station with relics nearby. Worth a minute to check out if you have the time.

Hunted a little while for this one with BriGuy. Snow made it tricky. So cool! Thanks to the nearby multi we learned about this benchmark ??

Out caching, and swung by to find this one. Cool spot, a bit surprising it is still there.

Those trademark scratches add character. What a wonderful sight to behold.
Thanks for sharing pics. Very near the Pompton Plains Museum

Found by description. The fact that it's in a foot path across the old tracks mae it that much easier.

Actually, to say I "found" this would be like cheating. I knew exactly where it was since I walked by it on my way to school every day for 10 years. See photo's!

I knew right were this was, I grew up less than 500' from it and passed it each day when I walked to school. The reading I got off my GPSr is slightly off from the one listed.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
