I was over at New South (right by the train station) for a training class this morning, so I thought I'd look for this benchmark afterwards. My GPS showed 15 foot accuracy at the time I found it but showed the uploaded waypoint probably 30 or so feet away from the actual location. Oh well, at least I found it!

photoThe Setting
The marker is on the crumbling section, where the concrete meets the gravel.

Agree with tracker about no trains coming!
The disk was partially buried by the crumbling wall (hence the poor stability rating). The disk it self is ok, just not reliable now.

photoLocation
At first glance I didnt find this one as it was more than half buried by concrete chips. Brushed them aside for the photo

Designation M 2 visable in this shot
photoThe platform
The disk is right at ground level. The platform itself is seriously crumbling apart! Hence the Reset M 2 a few yards away

Quick easy find.
Left V.A. quater at site to prove i was there.
Found this one at night.
Recovery note was on the money.
Glad no trains came by,that would of been ugly!

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in April 1995.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
