I go to this train station often and had no idea it was there.

It's been there since 1942 and is in good shape.

This was my first benchmark and a very easy one to find. I grew up literally 150 yards from the railroad station and just now discovered it 66 years later.

This was one of the easiest benchmarks we have ever found. We got strange looks from people while we were taking the picture.

Found it although my coordinates were not pointing me near it. They were about 30ft off. Probably due to number short on the long.

#10 BM. Came by to check on it. Its still there :D

It looks in good condition. It seems to have been recently reviewed as it still has yellow marking around it and, as directed by the NGS on the numbering. This is my first night sighting.

The disk is mounted vertically in the west station wall in the North part of the station.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values. The observed gravity was obtained from relative gravimeter ties to the IGSN71 gravity network.
