my first benchmark log.
Thanks to a mention in a geocache description, I looked for the benchmark. Luckily, it was on the cement bridge wall and not in the middle of the bridge covered by a carpet of leaves.

I hate to admit it took me a couple of tries before I was oriented to the correct railroad bed. This is NOT along the Sussex Branch Trail, which crosses Rt 206 about 0.2 mile further north. This mark is at a bridge is on the abandoned Lehigh and Hudson RR which ran long Limecrest Road to the north. This mark is just a couple hundred feet northeast of Rt 206, and reachable on foot from Rt. 206.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
