With no recovery since 1935, i had little hope for this one. Lo and behold the bridge was almost entirely still stone (many got cement upgrades years ago), sure enough in the second cap stone was the copper bolt! First BM of this kind that I have logged. This maybe the last of its kind in this area as these were only done way back in the 30's and most have been destroyed due to bridge improvements through the years.

Standing behind KV1186, bolt is in capstone on top of wing wall at other end of bridge.
photoThe Copper Bolt
I took 2 pictures and will post them both as I cant decide which is better. NOTE: surrounding the bolt, are the chiseled letters B M and L and something i couldnt make out.
photoSecond picture of same bolt
A second shot. You can tell its copper by the Blue-green color due to oxidation of the copper. Steel would rust and be brown. This bolt is a aqua-green color (copper). Again note chiseled letters in the capstone surrounding the bolt.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
