This benchmark was recovered in good condition by following the 1960 PADH description. The marker was covered by 1.5 inches of road dirt and grime that had to be scraped away. Future searches for this marker may require similar excavation.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1960 AT ALLENTOWN. AT ALLENTOWN, AT THE INTERCHANGE FORMED BY U.S. HIGHWAY 22, STATE HIGHWAY 145 AND SEVENTH STREET, ON TOP OF THE SOUTH END OF THE EAST CONCRETE CURB OF THE LARGE STATE HIGHWAY 145 BRIDGE OVER U.S. HIGHWAY 22, 31 FEET EAST OF THE CENTER LINE OF STATE HIGHWAY 145, 0.4 FOOT NORTH OF THE SOUTH END OF THE CURB AND ABOUT 0.6 FOOT ABOVE THE LEVEL OF THE HIGHWAY.

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
