Found today because I wanted to log a NCEES trackable with a benchmark. This benchmark is in not so good shape. It did look slightly better after I brushed it off with my hand but it is very well worn.

At 7th and Cherry Streets

I was working only a block away and decided to go find this benchmark. I walked right past it and made the find on the return trip.

Hard to read due to the excess green paint on the benchmark disk.

photothought it would show up better with powder,
but it didn't

Found this after touring the refurbished train station at 7th and Franklin Streets. The station was rededicated on Friday May 10, 2013. The benchmark has been painted over with a pale green paint, but part of it is exposed.

this one has been sprayed over with orange

As part of a reqest for moving on the Four Corners benchmarking coin I tried my luck at finding this one my first. Very interesting discovery. Photo to follow.

Didn't get to see a train pass through here, which would probably make traffic worse, so just as well. This is an easy find adjacent to the Sovereign Center.

On the base of a crossing gate, this has been painted green to make it easily visible to any surveyors who are looking for it.

Found it easily. It was painted green for some reason.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991. WARNING-Repeat measurements at this control monument indicate possible vertical movement.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
