The first time I looked for this I had never found a rivet and did not go far enough on this side of the tracks. Much safer from this side. There is parking on Bellevue and a short walk between businesses to a set of steps that takes you along the tracks outside the chain link fence and a narrow wooded area. There is some sort of small storage building near the fence that I used as a way point to access the RR tracks. A short walk toward the north put me at the correct side of the overpass bridge and there it was bright and shiny!

Hiking pole is within inches of the rivet.

This rail line is fairly active so be careful if you go after this mark.

found it. had a scary moment though. there was a train on the tracks and we wanted to cross over to find the other benchmark that's close to the one we just found. as we were deciding to go under a railcar or over where they're connected, heard this big bang as the train started moving. another geocache adventure.

Rivet is in good condition.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were scaled from a topographic map and have an estimated accuracy of +/- 6 seconds.
  • The orthometric height was determined by differential leveling and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in June 1991.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
  • The dynamic height is computed by dividing the NAVD 88 geopotential number by the normal gravity value computed on the Geodetic Reference System of 1980 (GRS 80) ellipsoid at 45 degrees latitude (g = 980.6199 gals.).
  • The modeled gravity was interpolated from observed gravity values.
