Easy find even though I didn't have a tape or metal detector. I paced the distance from the fountain and it was under a bit of dirt. The reference marks were both easy to locate.
Note for the previous searcher--the mark is between the telephone pole and the bush in your picture, fairly close to the pole.

I was unable to find Triangulation Station BETH on this date as I believe it is inside a fenced compound east of the park. I had no measuring devices or GPS with me, only notes, so I could be wrong. I found Reference Mark BETH RM 3 and a drinking fountain that I believe to be the fountain from the description.

This was my first find for a benchmark, and in this instance was not that hard because the History notes were good. Found Beth No 2 and Beth No 3. Didn't look for Beth No 1 since records indicate it was destroyed.

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in September 1999.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
