Documented History (by the NGS)

01/01/1960 by CGS (MONUMENTED)
DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1960 (JCC) THE STATION IS LOCATED IN THE CENTER SECTION OF THE BUSINESS DISTRICT OF ALLENTOWN, AT THE INTERSECTION OF SEVENTH AND HAMILTON STREETS, ON TOP OF THE COMMERCE BUILDING IN THE NORTHWEST ANGLE OF THE INTERSECTION. TO REACH THE TOP OF THE BUILDING, ELEVATOR CAN BE USED TO THE TOP FLOOR, THENCE BY LADDER THROUGH TWO SMALL HOLES TO THE ROOF. THE STATION MARK, A STANDARD DISK STAMPED PLAZA 1960, IS CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN THE TOP OF THE ROOF WITH ROOFING CEMENT AND COUNTERSUNK FLUSH WITH THE SURFACE OF THE ROOF. IT IS 6.0 FEET EAST OF THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF THE ELEVATOR HEAD HOUSE, 4.6 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE INSIDE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF THE COPING, 3.55 FEET NORTH OF THE NORTH EDGE OF THE SOUTH COPING AND 3.0 FEET WEST OF THE WEST EDGE OF THE EAST COPING. REFERENCE MARK 1, A STANDARD DISK STAMPED PLAZA NO 1 1960, IS CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE WITH CONCRETE IN THE TOP AND CENTER OF THE NORTH COPING OF THE BUILDING. IT IS 14.2 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF THE ELEVATOR HEAD HOUSE, 11.95 FEET EAST OF THE WEST EDGE OF THE COPING, 5.9 FEET EAST OF THE WEST EDGE OF THE COPING. PROJECTS ABOUT 1.0 FOOT ABOVE THE ROOF AND IS 1.3 FEET HIGHER THAN THE STATION. REFERENCE MARK 2, A STANDARD DISK STAMPED PLAZA NO 2 1960, IS CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN THE TOP AND CENTER OF THE WEST COPING OF THE BUILDING. IT IS 8.6 FEET NORTH OF THE NORTH EDGE OF THE COPING, 8.0 FEET WEST-SOUTHWEST OF THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF THE BUILDING AND COPING, PROJECTS ABOUT 2.0 FEET ABOVE THE SURFACE OF THE ROOF AND IS 1.3 FEET HIGHER THAN THE STATION. AN AZIMUTH MARK WAS NOT ESTABLISHED FOR THIS STATION. TRINGULATION STATION JORDAN MAY BE USED AS AN AZIMUTH MARK. HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE STATION MARK 2 METERS

Control Text

  • The horizontal coordinates were established by classical geodetic methods and adjusted by the National Geodetic Survey in September 1999.
  • The NAVD 88 height was computed by applying the VERTCON shift value to the NGVD 29 height (displayed under SUPERSEDED SURVEY CONTROL.)
  • The Laplace correction was computed from DEFLEC99 derived deflections.
  • The geoid height was determined by GEOID99.
